This craft night was definitely an oldie. Maybe you remember doing these as a kid? I should probably have a talk with my mother, because I was never introduced to this craft in my childhood. Not at school, not in Brownies, not even on a rainy day! I thought craft night would be a good chance to experience this little project that I have been so indecently deprived of.
Here's what you need:
pretty scrap paper (I used an Urban Outfitters catalog page)
elmer's glue mixture (50% glue, 50% water)
clear nail polish
Xacto knife or scissors
paint brush
straightened out paper clip
1. draw out long triangular strips on your scrap paper. I used a page that was roughly 8" x 10", and cut them the length of the 8" side. To save paper, butt the triangles up to each other as pictured below. the fat end on mine measured 1". If you use a longer strip, you'll get a fatter, rounder bead.
2. Trim them out. An Xacto blade will get you a more accurate cut than scissors will.

3. Paint the inside of your strip of paper with the Elmer's glue concoction until it's mostly saturated and sticky.
4. wrap the fat end of the glue painted strip around the paper clip with the glued side on the inside. tightly....

... until it overlaps, like so:

Keep wrapping until your finished bead looks something like this!

5. To ensure it really sticks together and remains a little more water-proof, paint the outside with clear nail polish.

6. and finally, adorn, wire, or string it with the materials of your choosing. Then wear it with pride!
